Construction underway for Five Dimes Brewery in Westwood

Construction for Five Dimes Brewery, the first in Westwood, is “well underway," Westwood Mayor Raymond Arroyo said in an update on his Instagram.

The long-awaited brewery is in the former five-and-dime store L.N. Grand, at 247 Westwood Ave., from which it gets its name. It’s owned by Chris Alepa, who also owns Select Wellness in Westwood and is a father of five.

"I've been homebrewing for years," said Alepa. "I knew I would enjoy opening a brewery."

Alepa is friends with the former owner of L.N. Grand. When he decided to close the old five-and-dime, he sold it to Alepa to open his dream brewery.

A mockup of the future brewery shows a brick building with greenery dripping down the sides. Alepa said the tasting room will be located on the roof of the building, and six large garage doors will be installed in the front that can be rolled up for an airy, open effect.
